Itching for the summer, live music and good people!
An amazing thing happened last night, as I left work at 6pm the sun was still up, yes the sun; what does that mean you ask? Live -outdoor music is on its way, it is within reach. Well as I patiently wait for a Dave Matthews Band tour announcement I am flooded with memories of past shows. Every year about this time I have the same debate with the same people who do not get the live experience. I go to as many live shows as I can, not to only see music but to see something a lot more important. Humanity.
As the winter looms on and people get the darkness glaze it is very easy to get a negative feeling. The days are short, power bills are up, roads are bad, hours of work are added due to snow time and people are lacking the solar power we all need. When it comes summer enjoying concerts renews my faith in humanity. Getting to see 500, 5000 or 50,000 people singing the same song and dancing along reminds me that we are all here to enjoy each other. For the most part the band is not even the most important part the music is what brings the whole experience together but it is the people who make the event an experience. Everywhere you look there are different people singing the same song loud and proud.
The Hangout Festival in Alabama released their line up this week and the other festivals are soon to follow suit. The Shivering Songs festival took place this past weekend and from what I hear was another great success providing a little mid-winter release for festival friends to meet up again. With any luck the tour dates and festival line-ups will start rolling in near the end of the month and I will be eagerly waiting with my credit card to buy some fun and a ticket to recharge my batteries. So get your dancing shoes ready winter is almost over and the sun is going to shine again.
So for all of you who have the same people say “why are you going to another show” or “haven’t you seen them before” no matter what the band is make sure you tell them your not buying a ticket for the band your buying tickets to see yourself. You are going to enjoy people those playing and those dancing. Music and art are not the most practical things for physical existence but for mental and spiritual I do not know what is more important.
Peace
Everett
