GALLERY CONNEXION IS SEEKING APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Gallery Connexion is an artist-run center in Fredericton, NB and presents contemporary visual art practices, including
visual, performance, literary, and inter-disciplinary art. Gallery Connexion is seeking an Executive Director who is a
creative innovator, has a passion for the visual arts and is committed to high quality, dynamic programming. As the
successful candidate you will be an outstanding leader, manager, and fundraiser, with exemplary team building and
collaboration skills. You will have not only in-depth knowledge of contemporary Canadian art, issues relevant to the
visual arts and best practices in gallery management, but also the ability and courage to do things in new and
imaginative ways.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director assumes responsibility for carrying out the policies,
regulations, and programming of Gallery Connexion.
Responsibilities:
· Organizing Gallery Connexion exhibitions, talks, and events along with committee members, volunteers, and staff
· Overseeing the current year’s programming and planning as well as day-to-day operations
· Creating and administering annual budgets and project budgets; keeping accurate books; and preparing regular
statements of revenues and expenditures
· Ensuring the operation of the gallery through successful grant applications from municipal, provincial, and federal
governments, as well as foundations and other private sources
· Assisting the Board of Directors in reviewing policy, operational planning, organizational development, and
fundraising campaigns
· Coordinating Board of Directors meetings, Annual General Meetings, and fundraising campaigns
· Making news items available to the press and promoting exhibitions and events
· Overseeing Gallery Connexion interns, summer students, and volunteers
· Collaborate in strategic planning with the board of directors
Qualifications:
· 3-5 years experience in the administration of an art gallery or other cultural institution, or equivalent experience
· Exemplary knowledge of contemporary art practices
· Strong organizational and management skills
· Friendly and approachable attitude
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Proven track record in financial management and planning
· A creative leader and innovator
· Successful grant writing experience with the ability to develop further fundraising opportunities
· Solid understanding of the culture of artist-run centres
· Familiarity with MS Office Suite
· French language skills considered an asset
Remuneration
Salary: Starting at $23,000, commensurate with experience, plus bonuses.
