Happy Harvest!
So it is Monday of the most anticipated week in Fredericton. We have been talking about Harvest since May and this massive party is about to kick off. Today I will focus on the info for the not sold out events of Saturday and talk about the mega Capital Complex weekend. Oh and also a big congrats to our Friends Picaroons for winning two golds, two bronzes and Brewer of the year awards from this past weekends Brewers awards in Toronto.
First the Capital Complex unleashed their schedule for Harvest weekend and it is stellar. Wednesday night we have our friends Weak Size Fish in the Capital bar, last time they were there it was a shirts off party in the heat of the summer, their shows are always packed and always a blast. Check out this vid of Weak Size from Folly Fest 2011 (http://www.youtube.com/user/WeakSizeFish) Up stairs the weekly Dub Antenna is bound to be in full stride on this epic week. Thursday we already covered the full Gordon Gets Lost show that will be a dance party.
Now my highlight of the Capital Complex week will be Alan Jeffries & Slim Pickens, this blue grass band is just amazing. With the loss of the Grass Mountain Hobos and the Strange boys we need another great blue grass band. Alan Jeffries has been a big player in the blue grass scene around the Maritimes since he was in his early years. With his massive touring with David Myles he has perfected his stage performance and gone back to his roots with Slim Pickens. I am almost as excited for this show as I am for Warren Haynes. Alan Jeffries and Slim Pickens play from 1-3:15. And remember the award winning Picaroons beer is on tap all weekend at the Capital Complex!
Now the Blues tent is again full of crazy big name acts, Matinee by the blues legend Taj Mahal Trio, then Ross Neilsen, Girls with Guitars, Jonny Lang and the afterburner of Rebirth Brass Band. This tent is going to be packed and full of future legends. So let’s go over to the Barracks tent where a lot of young and local talent has one for only $20. Rich Aucoin, many of you who do not know Rich have not experienced the party he puts on. When I saw him for the first time at the 2010 ECMA showcases I experienced an amazing display. The interaction between the crowd and the band is par none. Aucoin has been playing all over Canada and into the States and he will put on an amazing show this Saturday. This is also the home of the Galaxie Rising Star winner and the Pimps of Joytime will close the night in the Barracks. Worth the money and it should be a great time.
JJ Grey& Mofro stole the Harvest week a few years ago.
I did not expect much going into their show, I knew little about them but they killed it. The SG grooves and the face melting solos were all I could ask for. If you have not had the pleasure of seeing JJ Grey make sure you get out to this show. It features Oli Brown Band and the Rebirth Brass Band if you can not make it to the afterburner.
So here it is, Harvest week. Some last words of advice are make sure you check out the free Tannery stage, check out the buskers, check out the bars, enjoy the city. We have an amazing city here and I hope everyone gets out enjoys and if you see someone causing problems make sure it is known we are all out to enjoy the festival. Make sure you thank the volunteers, keep your garbage in the proper bins, re-use cups all that green stuff. Also make sure you enjoy the music!
