Good Day!
While a lot of the festival goers of the East Coast have already stormed the gates of Evolve and are setting up their temporary community just outside of Antigonish this weekend, I am doing something a little different this year. Today I am packing up with two friends from New Brunswick and trucking 500 or so KMs down the road from Whitehorse to The Dawson City Music Fest.
I arrived in Whitehorse on Sunday after eight days of driving across our magically beautiful country. I have to say the prairies get me every time, especially now that the bright yellow of the canola fields seem to go on forever and the rustic look of the grain elevators are reminiscent of a time when we relied on the rails.
Although the drive from Dawson Creek BC to Whitehorse YT compares in length to driving across Northern Ontario, it is much more exciting because of its creature feature...bison, sheep, moose, etc!
When I first decided to accompany my dear friend Cathy Gillis on her cross-Canada trek I was a little bummed that I would be missing out on Evolve this year BUT then I realized that the Dawson City Music Fest (DCMF) was happening here and I was giddy with excitement! From what I have been told visiting Dawson City is like stepping back into time, a time complete with dirt roads and memories of those seeking fortune during the Klondike gold rush.
In its 34th year DCMF is offering up some of the regions best acts as well as talent from down south. I am overjoyed to be representing feelsgood in the North and will be dropping in with nuggets of updates over the next few days!
Some of the bands I am looking forward include Deep Dark Woods and Pokey Lafarge & The South City Three from St. Louis Misourri...
