“The Other Side” Album Review
Tim Chaisson has been playing music for as long as I can remember. Being somewhat active in the music scene in the Maritimes I had heard of the famous Chaisson family long before I heard young Tim’s music. With the new album “The Other Side” he is doing his family proud. The album is full of strong melodies and catchy choruses that will have everyone singing along.
“The Other Side” is a great follow up to his last album…

Well the snow is gone; bring on new music, festivals and friends. Paddlefest, ECMA, Tim Chaisson, Andy Brown and Cavendish Beach.
This spring seems extra busy compared to past years. We have exciting festivals, rumors of “The Boss” coming to the maritimes and many friends recording new albums due out this year.

Shakedown
Finally after 3 long years Weak Size Fish are releasing their new album “Shakedown.” From the first listen of the album I can tell that they have not just been sitting on the coach. Weak Size Fish seemed to burst on the East Coast music scene in 2008-2009 and have continued to play amazing shows all over the country. They had ECMA showcase shows and spots on every Atlantic music festival stage. With that being said a lot of the new tracks on…

Why is it Cool to Hate Nickelback; or is it McNickelback.
The corporate rock machine that is Nickelback confuses me on multiple levels. I have spent the last few days going over information on the world’s most hated band and I found myself wondering why it is cool to hate Nickelback. Really the band has humble beginnings small town guys from Hanna Alberta who started a rock band after being in a cover band. They played countless bars, struggled to get found, released an Indie album…

In this new series I will review and discuss albums, the state of music, the business of music and my general analysis of the industry. Today’s popular music industry puts so much energy into the single and with the invention of Napster and the explosion of I tunes I fear the album is dying. I fear that songwriters and putting so much energy into making a “hit” the creation of a solid album is falling by the wayside. Sure some of the most classic albums of all time do not…

Haynes baby!
Now the Friday of Harvest is there a better time to be had. By Friday Harvest is in full swing, people are on day 3 of partying still not exhausted yet and the entire down town area is alive. Those who are “responsible” and have not been out all night Wednesday and Thursday hit the down town core and there are hundreds of people everywhere. The new party people give the 3rd day folks a little kick of energy and the real party starts…

Fredericton is Buzzing
With the cancellation of Gregg Allman and the announcement of replacement acts Buddy Guy and Levon Helm Band the excitement for Harvest could not be higher even though we are still three weeks away. As much as we do not want to say goodbye to summer I think everyone is waiting to yell out “Happy Harvest” all around town. One of the best features of Harvest is the close distance between all of the performance…

Rock Icons!
We are now a month away so its time to book the babysitter, think of an excuse to get out of work and to make sure you have your tickets. I know from the experience of having a lot of absent minded associates that the shows always sell out, they will, so make sure you get your tickets today. It never fails the Monday before Harvest kicks off I have 10 phone calls asking me if I know how to land some tickets to the sold out shows.…

We learned early Saturday morning that legend Gregg Allman has again come under health issues and will not be performing. So what will this article be about? This is going to be about the other amazing acts performing Wednesday September 14th in support of the soon to be announced headliner. Also I will let everyone know that you can refund your Gregg Allman tickets at the Harvest Central once they announce the new…

The countdown is on!
As scary as it sounds to a lot of people September is not that far away these days. This weekend marks the 5th of August and that reminds me that Harvest is a little over 40 days away and the joyful “HAPPY HARVEST” will be heard all over town. I am as big of a lover of summer as the next guy but I look forward to September every year for the week that is the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival. This year I will be taking a look at the festival in a few…

Sam Roberts Band- Collider Everett Album Review
Right out of the gate Sam Roberts Band’s new album Collider’s first track “The Last Crusade” has one of the best grooves I have heard in a long time. The Last Crusade progresses into a stellar sax solo that sets the bar high. This feel continues with “Let It In” that features an almost Franz Ferdinand Take Me Out tempo, and insanely catchy chorus. “Let It In” is a full band song, horns, and wind instruments sounds like it will…

I am a sucker for real rock and roll bands and that is what The Trews prove to be over and over again. Upon receiving their forth studio album I know that every new album takes a few listens but “Hope and Ruin” got me on the first go through. From the first track…

If you were to pick a place to base a rock band out of very few would decide St. John’s Newfoundland, but the Novaks are not every band.
During a recent interview with the Novaks vocalist/ guitarist Mick Davis he
told me that being based out of NFLD has some set backs but he would not do it
any other way. Mick said that they have never really considered moving to a
different city and that making it work…

After I acquired my Trews Acoustic tickets for the Fredericton Playhouse I was delighted to find out Tim Chaisson would be opening up the show with a scaled down version of his performance. I have seen Tim
Chaisson and Morning Fold on many occasions and was very excited to see the
different live performance.
Chaisson and guitarist Tian Wigmore played an…

Living in this great country of Canada we on the east coast are blessed with an
over-flowing talent pool of singer songwriters. I have been told by numerous amounts
of people that those in the Maritimes are “spoiled” by our musicians. With the
long history of great folk musicians such as Joel Leblanc, Thom Swift, David
Myles, Isaac and…
