Puerto Lobos
We had a very bumpy and heart attack inducing drive up to Puerto Lobos last Tuesday. We drove by many different farmers fields. The blueish tint of the desert mountains in the distance almost made me feel as if I was home in Canada. I was very excited to be heading on a little adventure away from Kino. It did not take us the 4 hours to get there like we had expected because there was a new superhighway. This was a nice relief after the small teases of smooth pavement that were…

Whiteguy Butterfly
This is gonna be a quick one – gotta synch the ipod, shower, eat, pack, and whatever else before taking off …Abram and I just got back from Alcatraz and are meeting the class up north (3 hour drive) for a few days of camping, snorkeling, and fun. STOKED! I’m gonna sleep under the stars, but apparently cold blooded creatures like to curl up with you at night. Oh bother.
We were up at 10 to 6am to meet the boat in Kino Viejo that would be taking us to Alcatraz. His…

It was a slow start to the day, but after getting everything back on track, I was out the Hotel doors by 8pm ready for one last night of what had been an amazing ECMA weekend.
8pm - I made my way to Satellite Gala party and after a brief stint in the media room got into the actual show in time to catch an amazing performance by David Myles followed by Hey Rosetta!
11pm - Off to the Delta to see whos still standing and catch great energetic performances by…

The Trews "Hope and Ruin- Everett album review
I am a sucker for real rock and roll bands and that is what The Trews prove to be over and over again. Upon receiving their forth studio album I know that every new album takes a few listens but “Hope and Ruin” got me on the first go through. From the first track…

Full Moon
Rocking in the hammock, still waiting for this cold to subside, I slept most of the day away. I see a full moon rising. Actually, it won't be full until tomorrow but it's pretty darn big. I very much enjoy the moon rise - I watch it almost every night. There are strange and crazy sounding voices singing, babbling, and yelling in the distance. Today is palm Sunday, which marks the beginning of Semana Santa. I remember enjoying making little crosses out of palm leaves at church when I was a…

ECMA's Day 3: in which we hit our stride.
Saturday begain as those wacky days of adventures usualy do. Awaking at 10:30 to the calm before the storm as musicians, and the musicly inclined, slowly stired from their slumbers all about the hotel, I knew before my eyes were open that things were going to get very interesting. We were litteraly sitting on a powder keg of rascals and shennanigoers who had been all riled up with non stop music for the last 78 hours.
After recieving word from Fredericton that Dennis and…

ECMA's 2011- Amazing music festival and celebration
Another year has come and gone for the ECMA's. This is always an energetic city wide celebration of the East Coast Music we love. This year the great city of Charlotte Town was graced with the explosion of crazy music loving patrons and talent that should make the rest of the world green with envy. We with those at Feels…

Harvest lineup becoming better and better!
So over the last 4 years the Fredericton Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival has been locked into some sweet acts. Most of us already knew that Greg Allman and Lang will be returning but on Thursday April 14th they announced that the new Warren Haynes band will be gracing the stage. This as we all know is not the first visit from Warren to the city of Fredericton in 2007 a facebook group brought Gov't Mule to Harvest which also delivered an amazing acoustic set from Warren.
We…

2011 Festival Season is coming.....
In Atlantic Canada we are very blessed to have amazing music festivals that range from small to massive and from local acts to massive international stars. The best thing about these festivals are the people attending them. We at Festival Hub are striving to promote not only festivals but the experience at said festivals but the people who make them possible.
With most festivals announcing peices of their line ups it is getting very exciting and I know we are not the only ones who…

Cheeseburger in Paradise
It certainly doesn’t feel like a Saturday – well except for the fact that there are actually people besides the ones I know on the beach. I can’t tell if I have a fever or if I’m just in Mexico…Despite my out-of-it’dness, it was a wonderful day. I am waiting on my chicken noodle soup (sans chicken) to cook…I think I’ll serve it like gazpacho – with ice and toast.
Yesterday I made a fancy to-do list for the next few months. Then the teacher (Dr.Ed) for the Prescott…

ECMA's Day 2: in which Time and sequence loose their charm.
Friday was a busy day, I have a list of notes concerning whom we saw where and why it was fun during the specific time it happend, but were in a bit of a hurry right now, after enjoying a lovely Sushi dinner, we've been relaxing getting ready for the evenings music, and once again, time snuck away on us and were almost late for Hey Rosetta! That certainly wont do. So Fridays summery is as follows. The kind and gental staff at Hunters are fantastic, couldn't ask for a group of more upright…

Sea Lion Woman
I sit in the hammock after a day of writing my work plan for the next few months and trying to fight off this cough I have somehow acquired. I did not know you could get sick in such a warm climate. My voice is going in and out of sounding like a pubescent boy. Hopefully this iced green tea I made will help. It may have something to do with all of the dust that this crazy wind has been blowing up my nostrils and into my mouth. Also, a note of correction with regards to our boat captain.…

ECMA's day 1: in which we get settled
Day 1: Thursday
10:00am - after a brief stop at the local Picaroons Growler store to grab all the Feels Good I can carry, Im on the road to that cute little island with its cute little potatos and pigtails.
2:30pm - after what seems like a suspiciously brief drive I roll into Charlotte town having no idea where I'm supposed to go or what Im supposed to be doing. Its cool tho, just as Im considering pulling over to consult my handy phone/ unerversal question answering…

One Week Anniversary
In the words of Rebecca Black: It’s Friday, Friday. If you don’t know who she is, well, you are lucky. The sun is shining. And though I thought my garden was going to be a complete failure - a little bean sprout is poking it's green head out of the hard cobble-y sand. Excellent.
How did that happen so quickly? Well there has been a lot of action since Lunes (Monday) and since I woke up an hour before I should have this morning, I will tell you all about it. I woke up this…

Salsa Fresca
Just heard a barking spider…didn’t know they were down here. Must’ve been all the beans Abram ate yesterday and today. I could not for the life of me find any Salsa at the Fruiteria in Kino Viejo (old kino) so I decided to make my own, which is what the locals must do. Just finished up a delicious dinner of…

A freeze in time is a cool thing
It’s funny how much a family can change over the years. As I look at the professional portrait of the Osbornes – Marj, Pete, Don, Mary, David and Neil, I wonder what was going through their head when that photo was taken. Probably something very different than what is going through their heads now. A freeze in time is such a cool thing. We tend to forget or notice that things change so drastically from black to white or white to black. We are so preoccupied with our lives that it is not…
