Fredericton born singer/songwriter/pianist, Jessy Ashfield, charms audiences through her piano driven songs depicting personal experiences with passion and soul. Jessy began classically training in voice and piano from the age of five giving her a solid foundation as a musician. Early in life she took interest in dance, theatre, music and writing but what really struck a chord in her heart was the piano. Soon after her passion for the piano was discovered, she began to play with melodies & lyrics, eventually writing her own music for the first time. Soon after, she began to perform for audiences in various venues around Fredericton. This is when her musical style really began to blossom into that of a seasoned musician.
Artists such as the Dave Matthews Band, Sarah McLachlan, Counting Crows, Grace Potter and Sarah Slean have inspired Jessy to further hone her craft and develop her song writing skills and musical style. In the summer of 2007, Jessy ventured into the studio with Evan Hanson and recorded a small 6 song demo titled “Step Back”. The recording opened doors for Jessy to take the stage at such venues as Cedar Tree Café, The Wilser’s Room, Fusion Nightclub, The Canada Day Celebrations, Folly Fest, The Garrison District Ale House, River Jam and The Tay Creek Folk Festival, each time escalating her love of the stage.
Jessy was the pianist and backing vocalist for the Jaclyn Reinhart Band from 2010-2012. With JRB, Jessy travelled to the East Coast Music Awards in 2011 and 2012, as well as preformed in music hot spots such as The Capital and The Celler in Fredericton, Plan B in Moncton, The Red Herring in St. Andrews and Fusion Café in Woodstock. They also preformed for the Summer Concert Series in Officers Square, the Canada Day Celebrations and in The Nashwalksis Commons in the summer of 2010 and 2011. JRB were also finalists in the Galaxie Rising Star Competition.
In the spring of 2012, Jessy decided to branch off on her own and focus more on her solo career. Her main focus would be to write, create & get back into the studio as soon as possible. To accomplish this goal, Jessy decided to reach out to her friends, family & fans by having a fundraiser to help raise funds for studio time.
Jessy held her recording fundraiser in September 2012 at Dolan's Pub and it was a huge success! Thanks to the extreme generosity of her supporters, she headed back into the studio in November 2012 to begin recording her very first EP with Evan Hansen at WYDESKY Studios. Camilo V. has also joined her in the studio, adding electric & acoustic guitar tracks. Recording should be wrapped up by late February with a release date planned for April/May 2013.
Jessy hopes this recording will open many doors and hopes that it will bring new and exciting opportunities as a developing solo artist. Until then, Jessy continues to book solo performances, accompanied by local guitarist, Camilo V.
